Ever wanted to have a fancy breakfast at home without putting in the effort of making said breakfast? It’s the eternal dilemma: are Saturday mornings for relaxing or for taking advantage of all that extra time to start the day off in a really special way?

We’re not fans of “either / or” dilemmas, so we have a suggestion: Why not have both? By taking one simple shortcut, you can whip up a variety of fancy breakfasts without having to rise with the sun.

What’s the secret? Buy some pre-baked croissants.

Yep, that’s it.

Here at Little Rae’s Bakery, we spend a lot of time perfecting and baking artisan products like croissants so that you don’t have to. Pastries can take a lot of time, effort, and expertise to make–especially those that use laminated doughs like croissants. We believe that everyone deserves to experience artisan baked goods, and ours come with our nut-free promise so that everyone can safely enjoy them.

Croissant and pastries from Little Rae's BakeryOnce you’ve acquired some croissants, use those fluffy, buttery, layered rolls of goodness to whip up a fancy breakfast that your whole household will love. Try some of these simple croissant breakfast recipes for an easy and delicious morning.

Croissant French Toast

French toast is a classic, but if you’re using plain ol’ sandwich bread, you’re really missing out. Try swapping that bread with a croissant sliced in half lengthwise—you’ll be in crispy French toast heaven in no time at all. Serve with your choice of toppings, like caramel cinnamon apples, fruit compote, whipped cream, or powdered sugar.

Croissant Breakfast Bread Pudding

If French toast sounds like too much work, a bread pudding or French toast bake might be more up your alley. Simply layer or soak croissants with a sweet custard and bake! There are lots of great bread pudding recipes out there, but we especially liked the sound of this dark chocolate croissant bread pudding.

Croissant Breakfast Sandwich

In the mood for something on the savory side? Croissants make fabulous breakfast sandwiches. Here are some ideas for what to include in your breakfast sandwich—pick your favorites!

  • Fried egg
  • Scrambled egg—Try adding some garlic powder and chives for extra flavor. Don’t forget salt and pepper!
  • Your favorite cheese—We like sharp cheddar, Gruyere, and gouda.
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Canadian bacon or ham
  • Greens, such as spinach or chard (chard is eggcellent when fried up in your extra bacon fat with some salt and pepper!)
  • Tomatoes
  • Avocado
  • Hot sauce
  • A drizzle of honey or maple syrup

We recommend toasting your croissant in the oven for about a minute before piling all the goodness on. If you’re using cheese, put that on your croissant first and then broil to melt and toast.

Croissant and Egg Casserole

Whipping up individual breakfast portions can be a long and arduous process, no matter how “simple” the recipe. And who wants to spend an hour tending to the skillet on a Saturday morning? This is what casserole dishes were made for. If you want a hearty, eggy breakfast to feed the entire crew, look no further than this croissant and egg casserole. The best part? You can prep it the night before and have piping hot breakfast casserole the next morning in less than an hour!

Stuffed Croissants

Need an even simpler croissant breakfast recipe? No problem. Cut your croissant in half, toast it if you’d like to, and then fill it with your choice of sweet or savory toppings. This is great for quick mornings and will ensure everyone gets the flavors they want. Here are a few of our favorite combinations:

  • Mascarpone, fresh berries, and a drizzle of honey
  • Brie and jam (toasting recommended)
  • Sliced figs, honey, and sea salt
  • Lemon curd and fresh whipped cream
  • Nutella, mascarpone, and fruit (such as bananas or berries)
  • Ricotta, roasted red peppers, salt, and pepper
  • Mashed or sliced avocado, sea salt cracked pepper, sprouts, and bacon bits
  • Brie, caramelized onions, and apple slices
  • Goat cheese, cranberry sauce, and turkey
  • Cream cheese, smoked salmon, and capers
  • Basil, tomato, and balsamic vinegar
